The Frankfurt School

This blog will hold pretty much any writing I do for the study I am currently undertaking of the Frankfurt School. This entry is just to give a very basic background for what I'm talking about.

The term "Frankfurt School" refers to the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research, founded by Carl Grunberg in 1923 after a successful conference on Marxism in 1922. It is more specifically used to talk about the group, largely recruited by Max Horkheimer, of Adorno, Fromm, Marcuse, Habermas, Benjamin and others. Members' interests varied wildly and there is no "Frankfurt Project" to speak of beyond the school itself.

My reading will focus on Benjamin, Marcuse, Adorno and Habermas. Possibly others. I suppose we will see.
